Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Massachusetts

wrongful death

My mother died of Urosepsist, however she was diagnosted with eskemia while she was in the emergency room. Myself and my family all where told she had eskema and because of her age she could not be operated on. After staying in the emergency room for two days we finally got her in a ICU. She was immediately rediagnost with Urosepsist and treated for such.

When we ordered the medical records her treatment was changed to show she never had eskemia as what was represented to me and all my brothers and sisters in the emergency room. This was done to cover up fact that they never treated her for septic shock for more than two days. My question is can we still sue the hospital or prove that records where changed by comparing the billing of medication and nurses and doctors notes. I have emergency medocine doctor friend who tells me that records are changed and it may not be so uncommon as we might think.
