This more of a policy or philosophy question than a legal one. The sad fact is that we have a large number of people in the states who because they entered illegally, (as many people from Mexico do), are an underclass, and who can NEVER get legal status under the current laws. On the other hand, a person may have options, depending on many factors, such as applications the parents may have made at some time, or service in the U.S. military.

In order to give you a more informed answer, I need to know a lot more information about you.

If any applications have been made in the past, that may affect you, or is you've lived here for a certain period of time, that too can affect you.

Since you are out of status, you will likely have to return to Mexico to process, but in certain circumstances even that may not be necessary.

Very often you cannot. Some times if the person has a close family member that is a US citizen the alien may be able to acquire Legal Permanent Residence. In few cases the alien can also acquire Legal Permanent Residence in accordance with "amnesty" programs (IRCA, LIFE, and for now, Newman/LULAC-CSS). This is a very difficult question to answer because it is very fact specific. Although some can, not every "illegal" alien can "fix" their immigration status.

I advice you consult an immigration attorney that has experience dealing with "illegal" aliens.
