Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan
How do i handle law suits filed against me for upaid debt.
How do i handle law suits filed against me for upaid debt. I have been unemployed or under employed for a couple of years. I am know employed at a level where I am able to pay my debt.
I went almost a year without paying on my unsecured debt. I have at least two suits filed against me and do not know how to proceed. The people I have talked to will only accept payment in full.

How you handle law suits depends on many factors: whether or not judgments have been entered against you; whether you have assets the creditor can garnish such as checking or savings accounts; whether you have a regular pay check that can be garnished. Often times creditors will play hard ball with an unrepresented debtor and refuse to negotiate a payment plan. However, if a judgment has been entered against you, you may be able to get a judge to allow you to make installment payments. This would require filing a motion with the court.
However, if your financail situtation warrants, you may want to consider bankruptcy. I'd be happy to discuss your options with you. Call me at 586-992-9981. Good luck.
