Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan

Income protection

I have been advised that my social security disability, VA compensation due to being 100% disabled and a duty disability from injuries as a police officer are protected during bankruptcy filing. What does that mean they are protected and can anyone explain to me how exactly are they protected? Does all this income have to be included in the means test and if filing chapter 13 can they touch this money?

Re: Income protection

It means that they cannot take any of your wages to pay off your debt. You always have to disclose all income, assets and debts when filing a bankruptcy - full disclosure. If you haven't already, I suggest retaining a bankruptcy lawyer to ensure that everything is handled properly. If you need a referral, please contact me.

Thank you.
