Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan

Wrong time to start a business?

I am a video professional who was

laid off from a staff position earlier in

the year. I have had some problems

finding freelance work due to lack of

equipment. I have decided to buy

some gear and start a small business

(sole proprietorship) to facilitate more

freelance opportunities. I have

secured a loan for the gear from a

family member but It will take a

couple weeks for everything to clear

before I can begin purchasing. It will

also take some lead time (couple

weeks) to familiarize myself with

some of the new gear, get business

cards, etc. before I can start hunting

for work.

As a result, I would like to get this

going ASAP.

My question is in regards to timing.

Is it a bad idea to start this late in

the year or would it be better to wait

until after the 1st of the new year?

Thanks for any insight.
