appartment lease

I signed a lease 6pmat close of day and gave one months rent. At 9am next morning my conditions at changed over night so I called to opt out of lease, I had not picked up keys for apt. because it was not ready the night befor when I signed. I really need out of lease but manager is telling me they will keep the whole months rent, IS THIS LEGAL CAN THEY DO THIS?

You need to look at the terms of your lease - was there a cancellation period specified? While the apartments may be entitled to keep your rent/deposit for your cancellation, you must make sure, because they try to do this all the time even when they aren't entitled to it. I suggest reviewing your contract and its exact terms for cancellation.
