after paying plate and registration fees can a dealer charge you extra for his mistake?

What mistake and how much is involved? A lot of what you are asking about depends upon the amount and also depends upon whether you financed the deal or not. If you did then you should have been handed Truth in Lending disclosures and those should be accurate. So if they are trying to add more then it could violate the Truth in Lending Act. I would need to know more detail about the amount and the kind of mistake made. If it was a mistake solely made by the dealer then typically the law will not allow that. If it was a mistake made by both parties then it could be allowed.
