Father deceased, medical bills

My father died leaving no estate, he and mother lived on social security. They had very little assests, all joint. Is she liable for his medical bills?

Re: Father deceased, medical bills

It depends on whether or not your mother agreed to be liable for the medical bills. The last time I checked into a hospital they made my wife sign a form that in effect said that she was my spouse and that we both benefited from the services provided and agreed to pay. I think they would have provided services if she had refused to sign, but I think most people just sign, as we did (I would not have let if we had not had insurance).
