Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

I took out several online payday loans and unfortunately defaulted. I settled them and paid what I could. I do not have a record of them. I have never received any notices in the mail as to collections. In the past two years I have received countless phone calls from many companies claiming to be legal companies and if I pay them they will not send me to court. I have paid many of these because I fell for it. These companies will never give me their address never give me who the original debtor is and I don't believe I owe these debts. Currently I am receiving calls from legal mediation services in Kentucky, I live in michigan. I called them again asked for their address they wouldn't give it to, stated I was being sued by direct cash loans corporate office. I stated I've never heard of them and I don't owe them anything. They said yes I do and if I refuse to work with them they will push the button to start lawsuit against me. I have checked my credit report, there is nothing there, I have checked with the local district court, there is nothing there. These people also are calling family members. I believe all these phone calls are a scam but I don't know how to get rid of them. I can't afford an attorney and I'm embarrassed about taking out these loans, what do I do? Thank you Lori DeLong

File a complaint with the police or FBI. If you truly don't owe any money then this is extortion. I have had clients pay me small amounts of money to write a letter and/or call these companies back. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. These people are debt collectors not mediators but they love to use that kind of false language to help them commit fraud. You need to report these people. If enough people do, the police or federal authorities will eventually do something.
