Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
I am going to be going into court facing "battery." From the start... Me and my underage friend were drinking in a hotel room that he got for his underage girlfriend. My girlfriend who is also underage was there, then a friend of theirs showed up, who is also underage. Me and my girlfriend's two friends got into an argument, then my very intoxicated friend hit me for arguing with his girlfriend. He then tried to wrestle me to the ground but I held him up and told him to stop. I hit him back to get him off me, then security guards ran down the hallway. Before they got to us I got off him and told them I wasnt trying to fight him. I told them and the police that I didn't supply the alcohol in the room, to which my friend agreed. So in the end, me and the friend are being charged with battery, and he's being charged with an MIP and contributing to minors. Shouldn't my battery be self defense? And could I possibly charged with contributing as well in court?

You can be charged with many things and self defense isn't going to work here. Once the threat is over, you can't hit back. Get a lawyer and see what you can get done to avoid a criminal record.
