Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Disorderly Person, Possible Indecent Exposure?

I would like to request some advice on how to handle myself in a police matter I became a part of over the holiday weekend. After an evening at the bar I ended up becoming extremely intoxicated and leaving with a woman. We proceeded to start making out on the hood of a parked car in the back of the bar. A police officer asked us to move along, which we did. Unfortunately, my no longer rational mind decided to move to an enclosed porch/hallway of some neighboring apartments and continue to make good on our convictions. The same cop came by with friends in tow, issued us tickets for ''Disorderly Person'' and sent us on our way.

Our court date is mandatory for this criminal misdemeanor, and is set for December 6th.

I am extremely afraid of the consequences right now. My past offenses include a Careless Driving offense from 5 years ago, and a civil infraction this past summer. The police report mentions that we were attempting to have sex / fooling around when they found us - this leads me to believe that they may attempt to register me as a sex offender.

I feel absolutely

Re: Disorderly Person, Possible Indecent Exposure?

Stop worrying so much! Disorderly person is possibly the least serious crime you can be charged with. If it were more serious, the officer would have arrested you on the spot.

In fact the officer was very kind to you. You could have been charged with more serious crimes.

In the worst case you'll serve one year probation and pay up to $1000 combined fines and costs. You will not have to register as a sex offender.

Your previous offenses won't have any effect on the outcome.

An attorney can keep this offense off your record in most cases and insure the above results. If you cannot afford an attorney, the court will appoint one for you at a modest cost.
