Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Help! I am about to enter nursing school and they do a criminal history check and fingerprint check. I was stupid a few years ago got caught shoplifting ( asmall amount under 25.00) No police were called but they took drivers liscsence # and I don't remember if they took fingerprints. They sent a fine in the mail for 200.00 which I paid promptly. Is this going to be found anywhere in a criminal history check? Felonys and misdemeanors will kick me out of school. How can I know for sure it was or was,nt reported to police and on my record before I pursue school any further?

Chances are that you do have a conviction. However, if five years have passed and you have no other criminal offenses on your record, you can apply for an expungement. I would be happy to assist you on such a matter. Check out my website at http://www.wolverinelaw.com
I doubt if you have a conviction on your record.
Based on the facts provided, it seems that you paid a civil demand (pre-suit) to the store. Retailers can demand (collect) up to $200.00 max. under the Michigan statute even though the items you allegedly stole had a value of $25. Since you were not arrested, issued a summons/complaint or convicted in a court of law, you should not have a conviction on your record. To be 99% certain, you ought to request for a copy of your criminal record. You can do it online through michgov.org.
Best of Luck in your nursing career.

Attorney Collis is wrong and should know better. Attorney Hajji is correct.
If you've never been to court, you have no worries.
