Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Trying to find the right proffession for me
To whom it may concern,
I am currently a sophomore in an university. I am thinking about going to Law School, but I am not sure what is the right area for me. What are the different proffessions in law where one does not need to go in front of a judge? And is there such a proffession as a research lawyer? If so, what does he do?
I would greatly appreciate an answer.
Thank you
Zhenya

Sure, you can have a non-courtroom career as an attorney.
I recommend that, while in law school, you try to get an internship in a court or a prosecutor's office appellate division (either as a formal position like an intern or extern or as an unpaid volunteer). It'll give you good hands-on experience, and you'll see what that corner of the Real World looks like.
But, as a second year college student, don't set your career plans in stone just yet. I'm a good example of that. When I entered law school, I planned on being a "corporate attorney" (office/desk work ... no courtroom). But, in law school, I answered a call for people to serve as "witnesses" in a mock trial class. (I'd read a background sheet on the witness I was going to portray and then law students in the class would do direct and cross-examinations of me in class, in a courtroom setting.) It was fun, and it turned me around 180 degrees. I now wanted to be IN the courtroom and do what they were doings. I took the class 2 terms later, served as a student assistant after that, and served on a mock trial competition team. Believe me, and "stage fright" was gone by then. I then decided on a career as a prosecutor (and, for a few years, in private practice as a civil trial attorney).
Use your time in law school to try things out. You may find out that you like something other than research.
Good luck!
