Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Hi,

In 2000 (when I was 19) I went to a rave party with some friends and was given a ticket for loitering in a drug zone. I gave up on paying the ticket after waiting on hold for hours with the Detroit PD. I have a warrant out where I can be picked up within 15 miles of Detroit for this. I have recently tried to get this resolved and was told to write a particular judge a letter. I did this with no response. My question is what can I do from here if I get no response and if I do get this resolved, will this still be on my record as a criminal charge? It seems ridiculous that you can be charged with a misdemeanor for just being somewhere. I was drug free then and am drug free now so the fact that it says that there is a narcotics charge on my record doesn't seem right to me.

You need to get this resolved with the Court and have the warrant lifted, otherwise the police can pick you up anywhere if it's on their system (LEIN). Get it taken care of asap. Because you did not respond to the misdemeanor ticket in 2000, it resulted in a bench warrant being issued for your arrest.

If you're matter is pending at the 36th District Court, you will likely encounter problems with getting this done on your own. You need a good lawyer who knows the procedures in that Court and knows how to handle such matters. Good Luck. 248.865.4700 ext 272 Dan
