can a officer ask you to come down to the station and not tell you why? what happenes if you dont go?

The police can ask you to come to the station, but you have a 5th amendment right against self incrimination, so nothing can happen to you as a result of invoking this right. Nonetheless, if you have reason to believe that you may be under criminal investigation it may be to your benefit to hire an attorney to speak w/ the police. At the very least an attorney can usually arrange for a voluntary arraignment rather than being arrested at your work or home.
