Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
sexually molesting a child
My sister has just told me she was sexually
mollested by a step father for 5 years. She
is 43, this happened when she was 9 -13
yrs. old. How do we go about prosicuting
him now, so he is held accountable and
doesn't do this to another child?

Re: sexually molesting a child
I believe that the statute of limitations in Michigan has passed by already. So it may be too late to prosecute because she did not report it until 25-30 years after the fact.
Nevertheless, she should talk to the prosecuting attorney in the county where the sexual acts occurred to confirm this. If the statute of limitations has not expired, then a police agency will have to investigate it all before a charging decision can be made.
