Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Violation of probation for non-payment of costs

I have just had a violation placed

on my probation for non-payment of

costs in Macomb county, MI circuit

court. I was originally placed on

probation for two years, supervised

in Oakland county, MI and I was

told 5 months ago by my

supervising agent that I had been

extended for a year or until I payed

my costs. I have been trying to

obtain my balance for 3 months and

was told by my supervising p.o. that

I had to get it from the Macomb

county agent, and was eventually

informed that he did not work there

anymore and that I had a new

agent. I have not been able to

contact her until I recieved the

letter informing me of the violation.

She has recommended removing my

probation, removing my felon

removal status, and jail time- I have

completed all other tasks, classes,

and testing set forth by the court

except for payment, and cannot

currently make those. I'm

wondering exactly what I should

do, and if the judge would most

likely take the recommendation, or

what?

If you regularly pay a portion of your costs - no matter how little - you will rarely be violated.

If you don't pay at all, you will always be violated.

The court wants payment - not excuses.
