Hello, I am a college student wondering if there is anyone that can assist me? I am a student at Baker College online and my problem is simple. I receive federal financial aid from the government and this aid was mistakenly removed by my academic adviser. The reason it was removed is because she changed my major to a non-degree major which is not eligible for aid. My major was suppose to be general studies and had I been informed that her changing my major would take away my aid I would not have allowed her to do it. Now the financial aid office at Baker College is totally ignoring my calls and email questions. I requested the aid because I needed it currently I am behind on rent because I was expecting a college refund check of 2,000 dollars that just got canceled by mistake but yet no one wants to restore it. I have enough work to do in my classes and now I am being stressed out by a financial aid office that is completely ignoring me. It's been 3 weeks now I just need help!

I have a number of clients having problems with online university. Your advisor had a duty to consult with the registrar (or whomever deals with student loans) before changing your enrollment status. Does your agreement/contract with Baker clearly state that non-degree students forfeit federal financial aid? Can the problem be solved by returning to your original degree status? This issue must come up many times, each day, and Baker should be aware of the potential problem. You can always file a small claims action to recover. Good luck.
