Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

16 year old living with family freinds

I moved to AZ, daughter wants to continue going to her old school in MI, a family freind offered to let her stay with them, my daughter is 16. I am ok with her staying there during the school year. Is it legal for her to stay there with my permission or do I need to get it documented in court.

The best thing to do, so that the school will allow her to enroll would be to have a guardianship granted to the family friend. With everyone in agreement it should be fairly easy to accomplish, but you'd want to start a guardianship proceeding (or your family friend could do it) and then have an agreed guardianship order entered that lays out the terms of the guardianship. You will have a very hard time getting your daughter enrolled in a Michigan school if you're not there, so you need to provide your family friend with proof that they can enroll her but you want to make sure the guardianship allows for you to have custody of your child during the summer and other non school times.
