Re: Commom Law

Hello: I have received a copy of your posting regarding common law marriages. Michigan no longer recognizes such relationships unless the relatyionship is recognized inthe state where the parties lived together. If a valid common law relationship existed in another state and then the parties move to Michigan, the relationship will be considered valid in Michigan. The relationship would be terminated in the same way a divorce proceeding would normally terminate a "normal" marriage. If you have other questions please feel free to call me or my associate, helene Phillips. Good Luck. John C. Talpos (http://www.Mich-Lawyer.com)
