Division of marital assets
My husband started a consulting company listed as a LLC. We liguidated a life insurance policy to start it. In a divorce am I entitled to half of its worth or half of its sale. We've been married 20 years.

Probably you are entitled to half of the value of all of the marital assets. Have you asked your attorney this question?

In a long term marriage with the facts as you have described, the business would be a marital asset. Valuation would be according to general accounting principles and experts can argue all day on how to do this. One half the value of the business could be given to you by way of a property resolution where you'd get property, such as equity in a house or it could be rolled into spousal support. However, in general, spousal support is subject to modification if things go down economically for your husband while a property settlement is locked in.
