Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Divorce and bank accounts

I live in MI and work and bank in OH. Papers for a divorce were filed in Feb. Friend of the Court set up ''nesting'' (one parent leaves every other weekend which I understand is an alternative to seperation). In April I recieved a $12,000 bonus for re-enlisting in the Army for the next 22 yrs. I put the money in a seperate account for safe keeping until the split of assests was determined. Last week my soon to be ex, somehow found my account information, (no small task as all passwords had been changed and a block put on to stop her access. She withdrew $5,500 dollars claiming that half was hers. Maybe so, but the court will decide. Is what she did legal without being on the account, or does the fact that we are both in the same house, ''nesting'' negate any protection that I have if we were physically seperated. My bank suggests filing a police report, they say they can't help me but I may have legal grounds. Any info would be helpful.

Re: Divorce and bank accounts

I would suggest a police report be filed. She had no right to that money as your attorney should be telling you.
