Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I (father) was recently awarded full custody of my 9 month old son. His mother and I were never married. I want to change my son's first and last names. What is the process? (I am in Michigan. My daughter was born in Ohio.)

The Circuit Court of the County where the minor child resides has jurisdiction for name changes. When you say that you have full custody of your son, you would need to show that you have full legal as well as physical custody. If so, then you can hire an attorney to file a Petition to change the name of your son. There are some statutory requirements of proving that the name change is not being done for some illegal purpose but it should be straight forward.
