Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Friend of the Court for childs best interes??
I have 2 girls ages 15 & 17 years old. They do not want to go to their fathers house for his weekend because of his behavior. He was abusive during our marriage and hasn't changed with his current marriage. I have never told my children not to go to their fathers, it was them who came to me begging and crying not to go and I didn't force them. My ex took me to court and we sat in front of the referee and my attorney told the court that my children did not want to go to their dads and they didn't feel comfortable over there. They scheduled an investagation with the children and also granted his 2 week summer parenting time, BEFORE they spoke with the children. I objected and went infront of the Judge who asked if he paid child support and since he does then he has his right to see the kids. Never asked why his own children don't want to go. My ex has a very violent temper and goes out on a rampage calling them names like sluts and horrors and uses the F word constantly. It sickens me that I have to force my children into that type of atmosphere. Would it be unproper to write the judge a letter explaining my disappointment in the system? There is so much more but I'm running out of room. Thanks

It would indeed be improper for you to try to communicate directly with the judge. In addition, the judge would likely ignore such a letter from you. However, it would be fine if you retained an aggressive, experienced and competent attorney to deal with the judge.
