Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
joint physical custody issues with other parent (mom)
We have Joint physical custody the 2 children (boy 14, girl 10) go sunday-sunday with each parent. The 14 yr old decided he wanted to stay with mom because he gets to do what he wants, he hangs out with bad kids, has gotten in trouble with the law already once, mom doesn't care what he does, he is not doing well in school. Mom is a severe alcoholic, lets him do what he wants so she can do what she wants. She may be trying to go to court for full custody of him (he would pick her because he doesn't have any rules at her house, and there are rules at dads). How can we prevent this from happening? How can we prove the mom is unfit? She smokes, drinks, constantly and keep the kids out late & does not make them do homework or anything. 14 yr old has had failing grades since the beginning of the school year, Mom just recently decided to pull him out of one school & enroll him in a smaller school without consenting me (dad), how is she able to do this? We need a mediator or something to be able to sit down & talk things out, who is good for this? I dont want my kids to turn out like their mom. Help! Thank you.
