What is the definition of Power of attorney

I would like the full definition of ''Power of attorney.'' Under what

circumstances can it be denied? I am an advertising consultant,

specailizing in Yellow pages advertising. A business gave me the

power of attorney to handle their Yellow pages program. The

Telephone company refused to recognize it and insisted that the

advertiser only do business with a telephone company

representative. I lost a large consulting fee. I also feel the

Telephone Company interfered with my contractual relationship

with my client, thereby denying my right to earn a living.

There is so much litigation when it comes to Yellow Pages stuff, that I can understand the reluctance of the phone company to accept a mere power of attorney. A power of attorney grants a person the power to handle specific chores for a limited period of time. While your power of attorney is most likely valid, it does not mean it has to be accepted.
