Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

If I never filed for child support

Is it possible to go to civil court for 5-6 years of back child support, if I never actually filed for support when I was divorced several years ago? Long story short, he had a chance of getting the kids back if I filed for support so I was afraid of loosing them. What, if any legal attorney should I contact? Is that civil, family or what?

Re: If I never filed for child support

I cannot fathom a situation where the Court would apply child support retroactively where there was no outstanding order or written agreement between the parties. I would advise you to contact a family law attorney to investigate collecting child support as soon as possible from a date certain the future.
