Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

neighbor using horrible profanity towards my child

OK, heres the deal, My son who is 11 was outside doing his chores and the 8 year old neighbor boy threw a glass bottle out in the road and broke it. The mother comes out swearing, using the f word and many other choice words towards my son saying that he told her son to throw the bottle. my son says he didn't tell him that and I believe him but, thats besides the point, she swore using the f word at my child and yelled at him in a way that we never talk to him. We are conservative Christians who homeschool this was very offensive to me. I told her if it happened again I would call the property owner (its a rental) and the police, honestly, what can I do if this happens again, aren't there laws or ordinances against using vulgar language to children?? There is no ''history'' with this family and ours, they are new to the neighborhood and I know absolutely nothing about them except they came from Warren and have 3 kids.

Any advice or help would be wonderful.

Thank you SO much.

Re: neighbor using horrible profanity towards my child

unfortunately, it would fall under free speech. Words are not a crime unless threatening death or serious harm. Then a personal protection order could be obtained. You just need to avoid the problem. Tim Klisz
