Legal Question in Immigration Law in Michigan
Hello,
I am a U.S Permanent resident (Green card) and have a foregin passport. Can I legally change my last name in U.S? (name change is not due to marriage or divorce. I simply do not like my last name). Would you recommend doing this? Would you be able to provide any service in order to achieve this?
The name change would require me to update my green card, foregin passport, Social Security card and Driver's lisence.
I would appreciate your response.
Thanks,
Bino.

To change your name, you will need to file a petition requesting legal name change with the courthouse in your city and State (MI). It is not a matter of immigration law, but a matter of a State law.
If you would decide to delay changing of your name, you will have a chance to do so without going to court when applying for US citizenship through naturalization (through USCIS).
