Legal Question in Immigration Law in Michigan

Hi, I am a permanent resident and am planning on moving back to my country this year. Due to the bad economy I am planning on putting my house in short-sale, but am wondering, if this would cause a problem for my sponsor who signed the affidavit of support? Or does that not apply to debt and loans such as mortgages? I appreciate your help! Hanna B
