Legal Question in Immigration Law in Michigan

I started dating this guy I met at work, and he is mexican. Although I thought at the time that he was in the US legally, long after the fact I found out that he wasnt. He told me that because I now know that I can get in trouble too if he does. I constantly tell him to get legal but he doesnt seem to care. He is here on a "visit" type of thing, he has a license and a passport so Im not understanding why he just doesnt do what he has to do to get legal, regardless thats his issue to deal with. What im concerned about is how it affects me although i did not know he had citizenship issues, any help would be appreciated.

It doesn't affect you in any way. It's his problem. H eis not being truthful. The issue here is that it's very difficult or sometimes impossible for someone who is living in USA illegally to become legal. Apparently, he can't apply for a green card (can't become a permanent resident), this is why he hadn't applied until now.
