Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan
Eviction
My brother was hired as a live in aide at an adult foster care home. He lived & worked there for 4 months. The owners terminated his employment & gave him 12 hrs to vacate the premises. He does not have adequate transportation and has not received the pay that he is entitled to, therefore, he has no way to remove his property. He is currently staying nights with friends & family because he has no permanent place to reside. The owners are calling him & threatening to trash his property if he does not come to remove the contents in 7 days. Are the owners/employers required by law to give him a written notice to vacate the premises?? Although he was not a paying tenant and there was no lease can they legally demand that he leave & put his property on the street or would they have to have a court order to do so? In the event that they trash his property would he have the right to sue?

Re: Eviction
Yes, he should be treated as any tenant under the law. His rights and remedies will depend on the specifics of the situation. Have him contact an attorney right away to adequately protect his interests. If he would like me to assist him, please have him contact me at www.lawrefs.com or [email protected].
