My landlord just sent me a notice saying that my lease has ended and I have approximately 3 weeks to move. What are my rights in this instance? What happens if I cannot move by the end of that 3 week time period? What are my rights?

A landlord must send you a notice to quit when he wants to evict you. He must give you the same time period as your lease, or if the lease ends and your payments were monthly, for example, the equivalent amount of time as a pay period. Thus, if you got three weeks and your lease was paid monthly, you did not get sufficient notice. Even if you did get sufficient notice and you have insufficient time to move, he cannot evict you without turning to the courts for assistance. Of course, that would likely mean that you would end up paying court costs and other fees once you were evicted but that is the only way he can legally force you out.
