Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Landlord/tenant

I had a judgement placed against me from my former landlord, since then he has sold the claim to a collection agency. The colllection agency has put this in my credit report. Now 18 months later he is trying to recollect on his own. Is this legal since the claim was sold to a collection agency, who is also trying to collect from me.

Re: Landlord/tenant

You are obligated to pay the judgment only one time. If he sold the judgment to the collection agency and you have proof that the collection agency now owns the debt, then you should only pay the collection agency. Put all communications in writing. The landlord could be guilty of fraud if he/she is attempting to collect a debt/judgment as to which all rights have been transferred.
