Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Michigan

Lawyer Won't Return Calls

My husband retained a lawyer in a wrongful termination case 7 months ago. Prior to retaining him he was very responsive and willing to answer questions, so we paid 3000.00 retainer and waived a severance package on his advice, and from that moment, can't get him to respond to questions. The only communication in 7 months was we received a set of interrogatories two months ago... no instructions, no suggestions, just ''answer these and return to me.'' He does not respond to emails or return calls. We made repeated requests for a copy of the complaint that was filed, no response. Do we have any recourse? Are we entitled to a copy of the complaint? Is 7 months w/nothing happening a normal timeframe? It's not as if we're pestering him to death with questions, we just call once a month to try to get an update... always leave 2 or 3 voicemails and follow up with an email... nothing back.

Re: Lawyer Won't Return Calls

You're not stuck with the lawyer. It may be time to bail. Contact me at [email protected] and I can advise whether I heard of the lawyer, his or her reputation and perhaps give you the name of a lawyer that can really take care of business in this area. The field of employment law is very highly specialized and lawyers should not dabble in it unless they really know what they are doing. William S. Stern
