co-workers defamation of character

Recently a co-worker(in a two person office)accused me of making a threatening comment regarding a firearm. This followed a prior charge by her regarding an anger issue in which she informed our supervisor that she stated she would no longer speak to me because I had gotten angry-not with her-and she refused to speak to me any longer-this had been going on for 2 weeks.

I did not make a threatening comment regarding a firearm at all-I was speaking to another employee about target shooting with my 9mm.She informed our superior that I had made the comment that I was going to bring it to work. That comment was never made! I had to get my union steward and told her that I wanted to persue a defamation of character case against her-no monetary award should be involved.

All of this follows on the heels of a ''feeling'' I have had that she wants me out of the office.

I tis not worth the expense of a lawsuit against her. Defamation cases are extemely time consumning and it would be amazingly disruptive of the entire office or workplace. I'd inform the supervisors that you cannot work any longer with a mental case and that you would be looking for another job. Then do it. Leave them deal with the wacko. William S. Stern 248-353-9400
