Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
Serving subpoenas
I have a business associate that emailed me today saying he has attempted to serve me but I've been unavailable. He actually stated that I need to go to his lawyer's office and sign paperwork to be formally served. He stated that me allegedly avoiding him will look bad when we finally go before the judge.
Do I have to go to his lawyer's office to be served as he stated? Am I violating any laws by not complying to his demands?

Re: Serving subpoenas
Your intuition is correct. You do not have to do anything to help the opposition get their case filed and served. Judge's rarely look at service of process as an issue unless there is a statute of limitations issue as to which the timing of service of process would be critical. The associate is making idle threats which to me suggest desperation.
If your opposition has legal counsel then you should to. If you would like my assistance, please contact me via my website at www.lawrefs.com.
