Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

durable power of attorney

Does having power of attorney allow you to add, subtract or change the name (presently only the person giving the power) on accounts and saftey deposit boxes? What about changing beneficiaries on IRA's and accounts other than life Ins.

Re: durable power of attorney

Generally yes, as long as the document gives those powers. You might get some resistance from the institutions.

Re: durable power of attorney

The powers given under a specific power of attorney depend on the powers listed in the power of attorney document(s). It is conceivable to have the powers you descibe if they are explicitly bestowed in the document(s). Please contact me with further questions at www.lawgreg.com.
