Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan
My Father has a Michigan bank account without naming a beneficiary. He left a will, and named his wife and son a sucessor trustee. The Bank indicated that we need to get a documnent from the court that allows us to close the account. What would this document be?

I am sorry for your loss. Because your father left a probate asset, probate is needed. Depending on the value of all items left in his name only, there are two forms of probate: regular and one day small estate. I would be happy to discuss both with you and help you with obtaining the letter of authority or order of distribution of assets. Call me at (313)402-0853 or visit online at kliszlaw.com to get started. Thanks, Tim Klisz
Mr. Klisz is correct. The bank is seeking a "letter of authority". You will obtain this document when you open a probate estate at the County Probate Court. I would be like to help you process the will and open the estate. Please contact me to discuss procedure and cost. 888-988-LAWS(5297) or [email protected]
