Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My father recently pasted away, he had no will. he was married but seperated for years. (they were/are in their 80's) What kind of legal paper does her power of attorney need to sign? there is a car, stock, and apartment security involved.

Her representative needs to sign an application or petition to initiate probate proceedings. Its easiest if an attorney completes to the paper work for her. as a son, you may also initiate proceedings and have his wife's representative sign a waiver and renunciation form, that she does not want to be in charge of his estate and then you could be in charge to liquidate his assets, pay bills from the proceeds, complete his last tax return and distribute the money per Michigan Law.
