Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My father-in-law died this week. He has very few assets. He owns 10 undeveloped acres that are worth less than $10,000 and a truck that is worth $3,000.

Since there is very little value in the estate and none of his heirs have much money, I have been appointed to figure out how to settle his estate.

In Michigan, what needs to be done to transfer title of a decedent's motor vehicle and real property?

Is there a way to check with local banks to ascertain whether a decendent had an account and/or safety deposit box?

Thanks for you assistance.
