Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

probate

a friends father passed away there was no will. the friend had 1 brother. Fathers brother filed paper work with court to probate fathers assests, friend had heard nothing about what is going on, what should he do. Friend lives in Mi I think father lived in New Jersey

The estate was likely opened in the county and state where the father resided and passed away, so he would have to find that out, contact that court, or perhaps hire a lawyer in that area to review the probate file and find out what happened to the assets, etc. If there was no will, your friend is likely entitled to half of the estate, after any debts were paid off, not counting any assets that were held jointly by the father and another person.
