Legal Question in Construction Law in Minnesota

Do I need to pay?

My X Girl friend gave me 11,100.oo to do work on her basement. At the time I was a licened contractor, I gave her a verbal estamate of 11,100. she gave me a check. I did work on her basement and got about 80 % finished before her work was finished. She hired another contractor and it cost her 6000. to finish the job. She took me to consolidation court and the judge said I should pay her 3300.? This dosent sound like a very fair ruling to me? If it cost her 6000. to finish 20% wouldnt the other 80% have costed her alot more than 11,000? Also, we have nothing in writing, or anything stating what would be completed? Is there anything I can do?

Re: Do I need to pay?

You have the right to appeal a conciliation court ruling to the district court. The ruling you received from the conciliation court should contain information on how to do this. Or you can go to the website for the district court in your county and it should tell you how to appeal a conciliation court ruling.

But hurry, the time limit for appealing a conciliation court judgment is very short. If you do not appeal, the conciliation court judgment will become final and it will be on your credit report.
