Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

I had a bill that was from 1998 that was charged off, and sold to a collection agency. The collection agency is calling me after 12 years. Am I this liable for this debt? Can they report on my credit?

You are not legally obligated for this debt. The Statute of Limitations for debts in Minnesota is 6 years. You can have the collection agency stop contacting you. Further, the debt should not be reported on your credit report.

You need to speak with a consumer attorney who can advise of your rights. Your case seems to be a good candidate for up to $1000 in statutory damages. Our law firm focuses on this exact situation. Feel free to contact us for more help or a legal consultation.
