Legal Question in DUI Law in Minnesota

WR Plates

Hello:

I have a question. I loaned my friend my truck to use back in June of 2006. While he had it, he was arrested for his 2nd DWI, and they took MY plates away because he told the officer that pulled him over that I was sitting next to him when he was driving I was NOT. Apparently he also said that he hadnt been drinking, so obviously he was lying from the get-go. Now Ive had these WR plates for over 6 months and I think I cant get normal ones back until May 2008 because my license tabs renew in May (his offense was in June). Is there a way to fight this? I sent in the administrative review request with a copy of the police report, but the report itself says that I was a passenger in the vehicle. Help. Im in sales and have a VERY nice vehicle and since the whole KARE11 thing on DWIs, its even more embarrassing having these plates on my truck.

Re: WR Plates

Within 30 days of the plate impoundment you may file a civil action to contest that impoundment. To prevail you must demonstrate that you were unaware that the driver would use your vehicle to violate the law and that the driver no longer has the ability to use that vehicle.
