child support

agreement says until child is 18 or emancipated

child is 18 and has lived with me for the past for years. I received no support. Now child is going to college and going to live with mother. Can she go after child support?

Generally, child support obligations end when a child is eighteen and no longer attending high school. So if the child has graduated from high school,there should be no child support obligation. Child support can go to age 20 if the child is still attending high school. There are some exceptions such a child that is disabled. Child support would not include any payments beyond the child's 18th birthday and graduation from high school absent an agreement to the contrary that was memorialized as part of a court order. Minnesota has not requirement to contribute to college expenses.
