Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
My now husband went to court for child support before we were married. He was ordered to pay a lot of money per month for his two children. Now we are married, he has a step daughter and another biological daughter with me. He also makes more than he did back then, but he still pays a lot for child support. Do we have a chance of getting his child support lowered since he now has a wife, daughter, and step daughter?

There is no way to know whether child support may be lowered without knowing the income of both parties. However, Minnesota Statutes state specifically that - "A child support order is not presumptively modifiable solely because an obligor or obligee becomes responsible for the support of an additional nonjoint child, which is born after an existing order." In other words, a new family and a new child alone would not be a basis to modify. A step child does not in any way affect child support.
