Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Legal name change

I have sole physical & legal custody of my 3 yr. old son. Custody was determined by a GAL after a motion was brought by his father. My son has his father's last name and I would like to change it to mine. Can I do that without his father's consent? Also, his father lives in TN. Is it possible to have child support enforced?

Re: Legal name change

You may be able to obtain a name change without the father's consent, although he will need to be notified of the action. You also may be able to have child support enforced, even though his father lives in Tennessee.
