Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota
Eviction
I am a rep-payee for a disabled adult who receives social security benefits. I signed a lease with her as guaranter of the rent. I signed it meaning that i am her rep-payee. The client is at risk of being evicted and the land lord has told me that it is my responsibility to pay for the remainder of the lease if she is evicted. Is there any way that i can get out of this? I am financially unable to pay for rent at the apartment if she is evicted. I could make her pay the remainder of the lease with her social security, but that would make her homeless as she would be unable to pay for rent anywhere else. This person is a Vulnerable Adult. I am not sure what i can do to help her or myself. the land lord is an attorney and i do not doubt that he will prosecute to the fullest extent. The apartment is also a complete dumb and things have not been repaired that he said he would repair over a month ago.

Re: Eviction
Would need to see the lease and rep-payee guaranty agreement to advise.
Sub-leasing might be option.
Iam an attorney-LL with 28 yrs experience.

You may be eligible for free legal advice. Hennepin County has a clinic at its housing court that is open during court hours. You could try that if your income is below a certain limit.
