Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

landlord / tenant

First, is it legal for Landlords to allow police into a rented house for street signs that were posted in the house. Second is it legal for Landlords to enter in tenants rooms with out the tenants permission. Third, the street signs were left in our house by the previos owners, are we still liable for the charges.

Re: landlord / tenant

I do not understand what you mean by "Steet signs". With respect to whether it is legal for a landlord to enter, I would qualify my answer my stating I assume you are speaking about a leased "single family residence or an apartment". If a single family residence or an apartment, a landlord would have the right to enter the premises for purposes of proctecting the property, e.g., usually an emergency situation, or if the landlord provided you with reasonable prior notice of his/her intention to enter and inspect the property. Whether a landlord can enter or moreover allow police to enter a premises without prior notice or permission will probably be dependent on the circumstance of the situation. Needless to say, if you have been adversely impacted or damaged by a landlord or police officer's non-permission entry, you are advised to seek legal advise before speaking with anyone as there are situations where such unauthorized and/or inspections would entitle you to certain protections and rights.
